366 II Day 366 - 30-06-15

FINAL DAY!!! It's very exciting. Time flies when you're having fun and this past year have gone by ridiculously fast.
Like yesterday, today didn't fit in the timeframe of 2 weeks, which worked out great for me because it gave me an opportunity to create the image below; I wanted something to symbolize the ending of this second year, a year of constant images and growth in photography.

The idea for this image began developing in my mind since I figured out I would have this extra day (well two, if you consider yesterday too); by the time it was due to be shot it was perfect in my mind which, I believe, is evident.
All natural light, the settings we actually somewhat basic; a wide enough aperture as to not to detract from the main subject; a solid shutter speed and an ISO to match.

Actually, it is somewhat phenomenal that, like last year's challenge, this year's final photo was the same concept as the first one, meaning - Fashion...

366 II Day 365 - 29-06-15

Considering how I have two extra days, non-theme dependent for this year's challenge I thought that I'll play a bit with them. Today is the first 'extra' day and I wanted to illustrate two particular things; one, the City of Calgary with some of its iconic features as the majority of my images were captured in this city, the city that is currently my home; second, I wanted to have a trip down memory lane to last year's challenge and capture a moment that is by no-means identical, yet echos the last photo of my first ever 366 challenge.
Of course I decided to do it very differently than last year and very unique in its own right.
To get the right look I needed a mid-range aperture to ensure the middle of the image is in focus, a fast shutter speed since I was doing a hand-held stitch and and ISO to match.

366 II Day 364 - 28-06-15

Yes, today is the last day of my two weeks' theme of complimentary colours. And yes, that does not bring me to the last day of my challenge, because a whole year is not as straight forward as 52 weeks. Don't worry I have a plan... but before that it's important to fully conclude the last and final theme of this past year. Let me do that by presenting the last yellow image that echos the first purple image.
In order to shoot this I needed the help of the spouse; this plant needed to be held in place because the wind kept moving it around and I was unable to capture it as I wish. The settings were perfect for what I needed and for a proper exposure; a solid shutter speed to freeze the movement; a somewhat narrow aperture to ensure full sharpness of subject (and blurriness of background); and ISO to match.

366 II Day 363 - 27-06-15

Echoing the first week of this theme is mostly related to echoing the concept, rather than the actual subjects; not only identical subjects would be impossible, they would also be boring. With that in mind today's subject is about the uniqueness of yellow, a flower that is especially yellow with a hint of purple in the scene (just like my Purple Iris photo from last week).
To obtain this image in a more unique manner I used my cellphone's 'lens blur' option; the only downside is I was unable to control the settings - but it worked out nicely still!

366 II Day 362 - 26-06-15

Today I was to capture water drops against / on a yellow subject. Funny thing though, it was one of the hottest, clearest days we've had in the City so far this year, which meant that improvisation would be key.
As I was heading towards the river I was paying attention to my surroundings since I wanted a subject that is different than what I've shot so far; when I noticed this leaf I thought 'Bingo!'; it's yellow, different, full of texture and interest. I picked it up and carried it with me to the river. There, I placed it on a rock and used my hands to splash it with water; after several attempts I was finally able to secure some actual water drops (not just wetness) and took this image.
Due to the bright day and subject I was able to keep my ISO at its lowest and the aperture at a nicely wide range. The shutter speed ended up being really fast to freeze the drops as they slid down the leaf and ensure a good exposure.

366 II Day 361 - 25-06-15

In continuance of my idea of echoing past week's subjects, this day is all about pattern - the pattern of natural yellow. The subject below is one of the most common plants that we can find in Calgary during early summer season. Every year I try to look at it in a different way and today I was able to look at it, once again, in a unique manner, focusing on the almost-mathematical aspect of it.
The wide aperture was chosen to make the main subject pop waaaay out while keeping the background all blurry; I was able to keep the ISO at its lowest by keeping a slow, yet solid shutter speed.

366 II Day 360 - 24-06-15

Today I was out on a mission to capture a yellow sea, again as a way to echo last week's subjects. Not only was I able to capture the "sea" I was also able to capture the small little bee that was flying around on it, making it even more perfect with regards to the purple sea photograph from last week.
Since the subject was a moving one I wanted to ensure my shutter speed is fast enough to freeze the motion; I also wanted an aperture that would allow the subject to pop out of the image, making it sharper than the rest of the scene. The ISO was, as usual, set to match.
